One of our Steering Group, Sidney Syson has been searching the archives to find out about the original Light of Leamington.
She’s come across these wonderful advertisements for Festival in the 1950’s. They invite the public not only to see the lights in the Jephson Gardens but also to nightly concerts in the Pavilion.
On offer was everything from Variety to Jazz to the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra with Sir Adrian Boult! There were fireworks too on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays. No wonder British Railways were advertising cheap tickets from Birmingham!
What would you like to see if we’re able to bring back the Lights Festival in Leamington? We’re keen to hear from companies, businesses, creatives, artists, community groups and residents. There’s still time to tell us your bright ideas, in our online survey. Click here to take part.
